🎙️ What Does It Take to Bring a Neighbourhood Back?
A TY-CO conversation initiated by ABR, in collaboration with Netcast Zone’s Good Girls podcast (episode 92), shared here with English subtitles.
Kaimakli was for years one of Nicosia's forgotten neighbourhoods. Today it is one of the liveliest parts of the city. In this episode of the Good Girls podcast, Terésa Toúrva and Giorgos Chatzichristou, the people behind Pame Kaimakli, talk about how a festival organised by Urban Gorillas, now in its 13th year, helped the neighbourhood become a community again.
We are sharing it as part of TY-CO (Typologies of Community), our European project on how cultural organisations and communities shape the places they live in. The original conversation is in Greek; this version has English subtitles.
What the conversation covers
Abandoned houses restored as homes, and what it takes to bring people back to a neighbourhood that had been left behind.
Muslim women who crossed an invisible line to offer help, refugee children who became volunteers, and why art should not be kept inside museums.
ART SHOULD NOT BE CONFINED TO MUSEUMS
